Fred’s Doing Summit Amazing for Charity

In just 6 months’ time, Fred will be taking on her biggest challenge to date – she’ll be climbing up the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro. Why, you ask?

Well other than being a complete adrenaline junkie, Fred is aiming to raise some serious cash for the local charity, Zoë’s Place. Here we explore the ups and downs of training for a climb this tough, and what the money Fred raises will mean for small children and babies across the Midlands.

Who are Zoë’s Place?

Zoë’s Place is a wonderful charity that provides 24 hour, end-of-life-care for children aged between 0-5 years. They receive little government funding, and so heavily depend on the kind of support Fred will be providing by climbing up Kilimanjaro.

Hiking it up a gear

Since Fred signed up for the challenge, she’s been walking around Coventry whenever she gets the chance, often achieving 20,000 steps a day! Plus, with the support of the team, she’s even managed to fit in daily walks at lunchtime. Oh, and let’s not forget those weekend walks with Pablo the dog – he’s been the driving force!

Although Coventry has its share of beauty spots, nothing quite beats Iceland’s captivating scenery, where she managed to fit in a lot of training whilst sightseeing in Reykjavík.

Looking the part

The next stop for Fred is a mountaineering shop, where she’ll be able to get her hands on all of the equipment and gadgets she’ll need for the mammoth climb. From waterproof climbing boots to portable chargers, and even some decent snacks, Fred’s got a lot of planning, buying and packing to do!

Do your bit!
